Starting Off The New Year, 2018

A new year has just begun.  I can imagine that we all have some new thoughts and plans for 2018.  May your plans be reality and no longer dreams.
I hadn't posted anything lately.  I'll go back and sum up 2017.
January -  Vendor at Calwa Park as the graffiti artist repaint the wall.
February-  Valentines Day
March- Saint Patrick's Day
April- Easter
May- Soul Food Festival at Bidwiz, downtown Fresno.  I was a vendor.
My granddaughter is graduating from High School and was accepted to The Academy Of Arts College in               San Francisco.  She received a sports scholarship in Volleyball.  Congratulations Kimiah!
June- Summer vacation starts right after school lets out this month.
Juneteenth Celebration at Gaston Middle School.
July - Independence Day
August - Barbecue Festival at Bidwiz, 2nd event.  I was a vendor for this event.  It was like a block party.                        Dancing, eating, music, etc.
          Schools are back in.
My nephew got married and I donated the wedding cake.
September - Family trip to San Francisco to move my granddaugther into the dorms.
October - Big Fresno Fair.  I entered and won 1st place and "best of the show" in cake decorating.  I have won                for 3 years straight.
November- Seafood Festival at Bidwiz.  I was a returning vendor for this event.  Another success.  All of the                   festivals were put on by Adrian Harris, CEO of Black Wall Street and Vibe.
Everyone got together to give thanks as we celebrated Thanksgiving.
December - I participated in smaller vendor events thoughout the year.
The reason for the season, "Christmas".  Celebrating the birth of our Messiah, Jesus Christ!

I may have forgotten somethings, but the blessing of memories is enjoying them when they return.

Caker Volunteers Needed

2/6/2017

It is called Cake4Kids and it is home bakers making birthday cakes for foster children/kids who otherwise wouldn't be recognized on their birthday.

It is a really neat program, that I think would do well here.  The only thing is, I am in need of volunteers!  I was wondering if you wouldn't mind considering volunteering some time (or if you have friends that would be interested).  Also, if you could mention it in your Wilton classes?  I am going to actively start recruiting volunteers, but I wanted to let you know.  The bakers don't need to be professionals.  Just people willing to do the best they can for these kids.

If you need more information on the organization, here is their website: http://www.cake4kids.org/

And if you could just pass the information along to anyone that wants to keep decorating, I would appreciate it!  Thanks!

The above message comes from one of my students who is seeking home bakers to assist in providing cakes for children in Foster homes.  If you are interested please checkout the website above.   Thank you

I hope everyones holidays were memorable and you're looking forward to the new adventures ahead of you.

Well, 2017 is here now.  If last year wasn't all that, seek thoses dreams this year.  Come out of your shell and try something new.  If you continue to repeat what you have been doing in the past and keep getting the same results, well it's time to try another route.  This time try following God instead of only calling on Him when we are in trouble.

Christmas is Approaching

It has been a little while since my last blog.  I hope everyones Thanksgiving was a joyous time as you spent it with your family and friends.  There are so many things to be thankful for.  My number one reason is waking up in my right mind and witnessing another day that The Lord has made.

Christmas is just 4 weeks away.
How is your shopping coming along?  Not sure of what to give?  Gift certificates are available.
Jesus is the reason for the season.

I am currently working on a dessert table for a "Sweet Sixteen" birthday party.  I am also baking a cake to donate to Westside Church of God Christmas Gala.  The gala has a live and silent auction.  This will be my third year donating.   The following week I will be sculpting a car cake and baking graduation cookies for a deer friend.   The week before Christmas, I'll be baking for my family as we prepare our hand-made goods to share with each family on Christmas Eve.
I would like to wish everyone a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year.   Be safe, don't drink and drive.  And don't text and drive.  Pull over and complete your message.

Stay connected to see what's new for 2017.

Today my message is about my granddaughter.  She is a senior at Bullard High School in Fresno, California and her volleyball school season has come to an end.  She has been blessed to play club volleyball for 6 seasons, starting at age 12.

My granddaughter's disavantage is that she grew up in a single parent home with 3 other sibblings and her mom (my daughter).  Being active in club volleyball isn't cheap.  The expenses were a constant challenge, but God has continously made a way.

My granddaughter, Kimiah wishes to continue to play as she attends college, but has yet to be recruited.  She has been invited to play for one of the top clubs in California that is also ranked 41st club in the Nation, Rage Volleyball Club.  Playing for a top ranking club will give her great exposure.

A  gofundme account has been set-up to offset some if not all of her expenses.  Theses expenses are:
        1.  Club fees/dues  $3000
       2. Estimated travel expenses $2000

I competed in two categories that had live judging.

In the custard pie division I entered my Sweet Potatoe Pie with homemade pie crust. The crust recipe was given to me by Bobbie Jean. I won second place.
Picture
The second live judging was in the cake contest.  I entered my Layered Checkboard Cake.  I won first place in the Chocolate Cake Division.
Picture
In the live judging division, the items are judged during the fair in front of spectators.
The rest of my items were judged before the opening of the fair.  This is called "Blind Judging".  The results are not revealed until opening day.  I listed the items below and how they placed.

I competed in six categories.  Next to the categories, I listed my item entered.  Four of the six items did not place within the range  of 1st, 2nd or 3rd place.  These categories are listed below.

2. Butter Cakes.....Whipped Cherry Buttercream 7up Cake aka "Shirley     Temple Cake".
3. Tricks with mix.....Chocolate chip Banana Nut Bread.
